Solar Junction, which in October set a record 44 percent efficiency for a multi-junction PV cell at a concentration of 942 suns, has signed a co-development agreement with Amonix, manufacturer of utility-scale CPV solar power systems. Amonix certified its own record conversion efficiency a year ago, operating a module at 33.5 percent. Both companies have facilities in San Jose, Calif.
Solar Junction develops a technology it calls the Adjustable Spectrum Lattice Matched (A-SLAM) cell, with a consistent crystal lattice throughout to optimize power at 1,000 to 1,300 suns. Amonix has been using acrylic Fresnel lenses to achieve concentrations of 500 suns in widely deployed operational systems.
