Motivated by decreases in the costs of photovoltaic (PV) panels, Butler Sun Solutions Inc. has developed its new PV-Wand, a 1,500-watt single-tank PV/hot water hybrid heater.
Manufactured in the United States, it uses low-voltage direct current from standard PV panels to heat water in any hot water, natural gas, propane or electric storage tank.
With no new or additional storage tank, PV installers can address customers’ hot water needs by simply adding a few more panels and wiring them directly to a PV-Wand in the existing water heater.
Designed for simple installation, high reliability and no maintenance requirements, the heater comes with a 25-year warranty and will cost about $4,500 before incentives.
