Overcoming Systemic Barriers in Clean Energy Research

Cityscapes Summit 2026 Energy Research Session in New Orleans

Cityscapes Summit 2026 brought hundreds of economic development, community, and local government leaders to New Orleans for three days of learning, connection, and action. This year’s Summit featured more than 20 mainstage and breakout sessions, six tours and site visits, two conversation dinners, and a Makers Market showcasing more than 15 local small businesses.

The Energy Research Session convened and curated by Henry Golatt, Karen Soares, and the HBCU Community Development Action Coalition (CDAC), brought together researchers, practitioners, and community leaders to ask whether Black researchers, HBCUs, and Minority Serving Institutions are receiving equitable access to research funding and opportunities.
