NREL and the Midwest Tribal Energy Resources Association (MTERA) Forum & Networking Session
NREL is working with MTERA (Midwest Tribal Energy Resources Association) on a three-year project (we’re about half way through) working to determine the regulatory/policy barriers to tribal solar deployment and then propose solutions and provide trainings to help tribes, regulators, and utilities create better relationships and understanding to deploy more solar. We started by holding listening sessions for tribes, utilities, and regulators, surveying stakeholders, and conducting interviews. In the summer, we will be publishing a draft of our findings. The draft will include barriers and solutions, case studies of tribal solar, and issue briefs (two-pagers on issues relevant to tribal solar development, like tribal sovereignty). The summer will also kick off related trainings and workshops.
