All members of the public are invited to Solar Fiesta 2022 and EV Show, a free event, with free parking, organized by the New Mexico Solar Energy Association (NMSEA), in the Cornell Mall area of the UNM campus on June 24, from 9 am – 3 pm (EV show ending at 1:30 pm). Park in the “E” or “R” lots at the Southeast part of UNM off Central Ave SE or Girard Blvd SE.

This family-oriented event, which occurs in partnership with the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) Solar 2022 Conference at UNM, will feature an extensive Electric Vehicle Show, a comprehensive “Solar 101” workshop, scores of exhibits, and lots of hands-on activities for kids to learn about energy, solar energy, and energy storage. Kid’s can also participate in a live broadcast of a special episode of the world renown “The Children’s Hour” with Katie Stone. The EV Show, organized with assistance from the climate group 350.org, will feature more than 10 models and an opportunity to chat directly with EV owners. NMSEA’s new version of its “SunChaser” solar educational trailer will also be on hand, along with UNM’s “Solar Splash” solar powered boat and electric race car, along with UNM’s Sustainability Studies Program and Albuquerque’s amazing Electric Bus.  The “Solar 101” workshop will be presented by three NMSEA experts – Mark Chalom, Quentin Wilson and Marlene Brown – in the UNM Student Union Building, and cover photovoltaics, solar thermal, and passive solar architecture, along with the latter’s connection with New Mexico’s ancient tradition of adobe construction. Representatives from a wide variety of solar companies and nonprofits will be on hand to answer questions about installing both solar and EV chargers, climate change, etc. And finally, a giant solar oven will be on hand, manned by a “solar chef” to discuss how to cook with solar. So don’t miss out – Join us for fun in the Sun and help transition NM to a clean energy future!

The New Mexico Solar Energy Association (NMSEA) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the environment by furthering the use of clean, renewable energy and electric transportation. NMSEA is in fact the oldest existing solar energy association in the United States, and has played a major role in the development of solar energy in the United States over its long and storied history. The organization is a state chapter of the American Solar Energy Association (ASES), and was historically the first state chapter ASES. The ASES Solar 2022 Conference is also the first annual ASES Conference in New Mexico since NMSEA hosted the 1998 ASES Conference. The return of ASES to New Mexico is a major event for NMSEA, and coincides fortuitously with NMSEA’s 50th Anniversary.
