NREL Interns Get Hands-On Training

About 80 college interns with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colo., visited the homes of Colorado Renewable Energy Society members John Avenson and Steve Stevens this July. Avenson lives in a green-built home he designed in 1982 with the help of the Solar Energy Research Institute, which later became NREL. Stevens lives in a 1979 home that he later retrofit to increase energy efficiency and accommodate renewable energy systems. The interns were able to compare the differences between a home built green from the outset and one built standard with later improvements. Photo courtesy of John Avenson
