Organizing a Successful Tour

The ASES National Solar Tour is the world's largest grassroots solar event -- which is a direct result of the efforts of local organizers like you throughout the country.

This fun event offers participants the opportunity to tour homes and buildings to see how neighbors are using solar energy, energy efficiency, and other sustainable technologies to reduce their monthly utility bills and help tackle climate change. Last year close to 140,000 attendees visited some 5,000 buildings in 3,000 participating communities. Now in its 14th year, this event is coordinated nationally by the nonprofit American Solar Energy Society. It takes place annually during the first Saturday in October in conjunction with National Energy Awareness Month.

Why organize a Tour?

Here are some specific reasons shared by past Tour organizers throughout the US:

"Organizing a solar tour in my area has made a huge difference in motivating people in my community to invest in renewable energy."

"I couldn't believe how much fun it was to meet and share the excitement of renewable energy with so many of my neighbors- this was the perfect opportunity to meet local folks... I love the camaraderie of the people and lasting friendships."

"ASES (website) brought out different people and there were many fascinating conversations about what people are doing and their plans: we learned so much!"

"This is a GROWTH industry that US scientific and technological power can propel to the economic advantage of the US. Great for the future and is a win- win- win. This is a perfect opportunity to share that perspective!"

"It is a great opportunity to show people how to save money while still have everyday conveniencs and do your part to help the environment."

Hardly a day passes when we are not reminded of how our daily lives are changing very quickly. From economic concerns to environmental matters it seems that every facet of how we live is being impacted. Many people are looking for a way to move the U.S toward sustainable energy choices that add jobs, support the economy, strenghten national security and reduce pollution, water use and carbon emissions responsible for global warming. Those involved in the tour, either as organizers or home or building owners, are sharing first hand how to take charge on an individual level, implementing solutions that are available right now.

Your enthusiasm and passion is contagious and many of your neighbors are eager to learn from your knowledge of renewable energy. And that is where you, as an organizer, play a pivotal role in linking people and knowledge!

Simply put, as a Tour organizer you are demonstrating leadership in your community in forwarding the renewable energy revolution!

I look forward to working with and supporting you as a Tour organizer in every way possible to make this year's 2009 ASES National Tour the best one ever!
