Re: Solar Thermal Forum: Installation Issues (to be presented at SOLAR 2008 in San Diego)

Hello All,

Once again I am organizing a forum for SOLAR 2008 to host a debate/discussion of installation issues.  We are looking for talented panelists as well as pertinent topics.  If you are interested in serving on the panel, you will need to be present in San Diego on May 6th at 11:00 am.  Panelists can request a complementary single day pass to the conference.  Please send me full contact information (name, affiliation, email, telephone, mailing address) as well as background so that we can make the best selection for the panel.  I need to hear from you by Wednesday, January 30.

If you have an opinion about which topics listed below should be addressed, I would also appreciate hearing that.

PURPOSE OF THE FORUM

Last year I organized and moderated a forum to address solar water heating installation issues.  The forum was very well received and we would like to propose essentially the same forum covering topics related to choice of equipment and installation methods.  We anticipate a healthy exchange of ideas between installers, suppliers, and manufacturers.  The purpose of this forum is to provide an interactive setting where the debate on solar heating issues can be conducted publicly.

CONTENT OF THE FORUM

From the input I have received so far, the forum could address the following topics:

  • Flat Plate Versus Evacuated Tube Collectors
  • Solar System Overheating Protection
  • System Working Fluids and Corrosion Prevention
  • Installation Training
  • Heat Exchanger Technology
  • Experience With New Technologies
  • Installation Methods
  • Packaged Systems/ Preferred Products

Input will be solicited from members of the ASES Solar Thermal Division as to what issues they consider most pertinent to address.

Each panelist will have prepared a short (5-10 minute) presentation covering one or several of the above topics to establish a base for discussion.  Questions will be prepared in advance and each one directed at one or two members of the panel.  Time will be allotted for responses from panelists and questions from the audience.  The moderator will have final choice of questions.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF FORUM FOR CONFERENCE PUBLICITY AND PROGRAM

Do you have questions about which technologies are preferred by installers?  Do you wonder what techniques and products your competition favors?  If so, this forum is for you.  Please come and participate in a lively discussion of installation topics with a panel of experienced installers.
