With the “catch the clean energy wave” theme, this will be a great opportunity to present your work on sustainable activities and develop engaging forums and workshop that inspire new ideas and strategies.

Committees on the Move
Join the Wave

Several great efforts are underway.  Please join in or add to the waves.

Greening Solar 2008 -- Going Beyond Our Current Practices
Christiane Heckeroth got this wave going with a great list of greening suggestions dealing with everything from reducing waste to improving quality life at the conference (e.g., yoga anyone).  Paulette Middleton and Mike Digrazia proposed that every greening activity be highlighted so that attendees can spot the greening and learn more about the many benefits.  Margot McDonald (our Solar 2008 Chair) and Becky Campbell-Howe are welcoming these and other suggestions for Greening Solar 2008.  Keep the ideas and how to implement them coming!!

Student Award in Sustainability

The Divisions Committee is setting up a task force chaired by Jeff Lyng to develop a process for giving out annual student awards in each division.  Ideas?  Please contact our Task Force division rep David Panich at dpanich@pnarch.com.

Carbon Diet for Your Business

Rebecca Valentine is leading a proposed pilot program aimed at helping ASES members reduce their workplace carbon footprints.  What better industry than ours to be a model for lean, green business practices? Her collaborator, the Bainbridge Graduate Institute, with the assistance of its Green MBA students, will work with renewable energy companies to find ways for them to go green, or “go greener”.

And, coming up at Solar 2008, Rebecca plans to organize an event celebrating some of the "Biggest Losers" (i.e., as in carbon footprint) Stay tuned.  More coming.  Want additional details, considering a carbon diet yourself???  Contact Rebecca at rebeccav@sonic.net

And, how about Green Business Awards?  Rebecca also is proposing that ASES start up an award for businesses that are doing a great job
implementing sustainable business practices. If you want to nominate a green company or have suggestions for industry sponsors for the awards forum at SOLAR 2008, please send comments to Rebecca.

Sustainability Experts Clearinghouse:  Science Supporting Policy Making

Do you have experience advising on RE/EE or related environmental policy making at the national, state or local level?  Willing to help chapters in their efforts?  Have materials (e.g., presentations) that others could use to get the straight facts across to decision makers?  Please send your interest, expertise and contact info to David Comis  dcomis@earthlink.net and Paulette Middleton paulette@panoramapathways.net.

Job Creation & YOU

The SOLAR 2007 Job Forum was a big success – lots of connections were made and summary info was sent out to all forum attendees.   More opportunities for job hunting will be available at SOLAR 2008.  Have ideas for how to make linking up more effective??  Want to contribute to a side event on jobs?? Send a note to Paulette Middleton paulette@panoramapathways.net

Ethics of Climate Change

Don Scherer and Barbara Farhar are organizing a Forum on this topic as a starting point for ongoing discussions and actions in ASES.  Let them know your ideas.  Don dschere@bgsu.edu   Barbara barbara.farhar@colorado.edu

Population – Resources – Environment

How do these all inter-relate in determining sustainability worldwide?  What about consumption per capita, responsibilities of the US, opportunities for working with other countries,…??  Interested in pursuing these important issues and perhaps contributing to a forum discussion??  Steve Sargent solarsarge@comcast.net has been working on this for several years and is interested in spearheading a forum proposal.  Contact him with your interests and ideas.

Got News ??

Coming soon!!  We will be putting exciting and important news on the ASES web site as a way of getting more timely information related to sustainability out to all of you.   Please send your news items today to Paulette Middleton Paulette@PanoramaPathways.net
